Artistic Statement

artisticstatementTheatre is an effective and powerful tool for change as exemplified by The Laramie Project about the brutal death of Matthew Shepard, a gay youth in Wyoming, and The Exonerated, a docudrama advocating for innocent people on death row. Productions of these plays have contributed to the passage of gay rights legislation and a change in capital punishment laws throughout the country. Like these plays, Day Room Window has the power to effect public attitudes and policy regarding the treatment and incarceration of children.

It is the intent to have Day Room Window published and made available for production in theatres throughout the country. The play especially lends itself to replication in colleges and universities whose theatre schools seek large cast plays that are ethnically and racially diverse and offer good roles for young women.
